Now, another habit has been proposed to support the activities mentioned above, and it has been called eco-friendly eating habits that bring a more positive impact to our surroundings. Aside from that, it helps a lot with unhealthy diet and improving one’s well-being.

Eco-friendly eating may sound unfamiliar to you, and you may see it as a task that is hard to adjust to and accomplish, but consistently reminding yourself of what, when, how, and why you are eating a particular food will help you with this.

Eco-friendly eating habits include but are not limited to the type of food that you eat. You must also keep in mind how you store these foods accordingly and how you should cook them, as well.

Below are 5 eco-friendly eating habits that you should certainly adopt today, assuring you that each of them will help you adjust well to your new healthy diet.

1. Plant-based foods are your friend

Well, constantly keeping plant-based foods included in your plate, for whatever meal or snack it may be, is also essential in reducing your ecological foodprint.

Plant-based foods are also the ones that aid your stomach in absorbing nutrients better. With this, eating more fruits and vegetables can guarantee that your immune system will be tougher than it already is, and there is a reduced inflammation, as well.

 2. Use mindful eating techniques

Does the term “mindful eating” sound unfamiliar to you? Well, it simply means that you should be more conscious of your diet and that automatically includes your eating habits.

Think about what you eat and how do these benefit your body. Aside from that, how much amount of cholesterol, sugar, and other nutrients have you been digesting for a certain period of time? Surely, you must keep track of this.

Using mindful eating techniques is a great step in helping you decide better when it comes to your food choices. You are more aware of what you are eating, which means that you know which to consume more and which to avoid.

The other benefits that mindful eating brings are:

  • Having a healthy eating schedule. There are times when we forget to eat on time, and this may lead to a bad stomach. However, keeping up with a healthy eating schedule and not skipping meals is a huge help in achieving mindful eating.
  • Balance your meals. You may have been having more cholesterol than what is necessary, or you may be lacking water without realizing it. Take note of the contents of your meals – and this includes your snacks – for every single day, and then observe what you need to remove or eat more in your diet. Remember that a healthy diet is a balanced one.
  • Understand the difference between hunger and appetite. This is actually simple, as hunger is your go-sign to eat; your body is in need of food the moment you are hungry. For appetite, however, it is more of a want, and a sudden craving for an unnecessary bite.

3. Cook once, eat twice

This eco-friendly eating habit is what its name suggests – you cook once, and this should be enough to last you two meals! In other terms, you should practice eating leftovers, as it will help you save not just more money but more time and energy, as well.

To further elaborate, you would not have to use your oven twice, just for lunch and dinner. Instead, you can practice cooking a meal for two during lunch and eat leftovers for dinner. Reheating definitely saves up more electricity or fuel than having to cook again.

Adding a positive note to this habit is that you would find yourself saving more ingredients, as well.

4. Make use of labels

Speaking of leftovers, do you perhaps have a variety of them on your fridge that, unfortunately, ends up being spoiled and rotten? All it did was take up unnecessary space, but this eco-friendly eating habit will guarantee help if you find trouble with that.

The key to this is to put labels on the containers of the food simply. Set a date on when you should eat this food, and put them at the eye level of your fridge, so you would immediately set your eyes on this once you open your refrigerator.

However, for your freezer, it is best that you mark your products in the freezer with the date you put them there. You can make use of this as a reminder to eat the products before they end up spoiling inside your fridge.

5. Store your food properly

Just like the one mentioned above, it is common that you lose the chance to eat a certain product just because it gets spoiled beforehand. However, this eco-friendly habit will help you avoid that and will assure you that no food item of yours will ever go to waste again.

Foods that go bad do not necessarily mean that you forgot to eat them before their expiry date. There are times when your food may end up going bad earlier than its expiration date, and this is because you have failed to store it properly!
