3 Of The Clearest Caribbean Waters That Expats Would Die For

Caribbean

The Caribbean is a firm favourite among expats, and understandably so. As well as its laidback lifestyle, mouthwatering cuisine and alluring affordability, many of the region’s 1.6 million immigrants have settled there to enjoy its natural delights.

Ranking highly among such delights is the Caribbean’s clear blue waters. Home to some of the world’s most beautiful beaches, few things beat being able to swim in translucent waters while being surrounded by spectacular scenery.

But where should expats go in the Caribbean to find locations like this? Here are three of the clearest waters in the region.

Table of Contents

  • 1. Champagne Beach, Dominica
  • 2. Pinney’s Beach, Nevis
  • 3. Cabbage Beach, The Bahamas

1. Champagne Beach, Dominica

Dominica’s Champagne Beach is so named because of its bubbling waters, a phenomenon caused by the volcanic thermal springs beneath. The waters are also crystal clear, earning the beach a place on our list.

Champagne Beach is very popular with diving and snorkelling enthusiasts from all over the world. This is in large part down to its reef which boasts a cornucopia of colours and fascinating sea creatures upon a striking backdrop of mountains and gorges.

Fortunately for budding expats, emigrating to Dominica is easier than ever thanks to its renowned citizenship by investment programme. Ranked as the world’s best for six years running by the CBI Index, CS Global Partners note that it is “good value for money for both individual applicants and families looking to apply for second citizenship”, with a minimum investment of $100,000 required.

2. Pinney’s Beach, Nevis

When you imagine what a Caribbean beach looks like, images of pristine white sands probably come to mind. However, Pinney’s Beach in Nevis is distinct for its saffron-coloured sand, making it one of the most unique coastal attractions in the Caribbean. It regularly features on the glossy pages of travel magazines and is one of Nevis’s biggest draws.

Located on the island’s west edge, north of Charlestown, Pinney’s Beach is also the country’s longest beach at approximately four miles long. It takes its name from “Pinney’s Estate”, a plantation owned by the Pinney family in the 19th century. The beach is open to the public 24/7, and has plenty of bars and opportunities for water sports.

Like Dominica, Nevis has its own citizenship by investment programme, run in conjunction with its sister island, St Kitts. The St Kitts and Nevis programme is the world’s oldest, and enables expats to move there easily, as well as their family.

3. Cabbage Beach, The Bahamas

Rounding off our list is the wonderfully named Cabbage Beach in the Bahamas. Situated on the north coast of Paradise Island, about five miles north of Nassau (the capital), the palm tree-lined beach is the classic postcard picture of Caribbean beaches.

Cabbage Beach is full of things to do, with kayaking, jet skiing, snorkelling and scuba diving opportunities. The beach is also near some of the Bahamas’ best attractions, from the French Cloisters to Rose Island, making it an ideal base for exploring the country.

Although the Bahamas doesn’t have a citizenship by investment programme, you can gain permanent residency there by investing in property worth $750,000 or more. Alternatively, you’ll need to work or live in the Bahamas for at least 20 years, work there in a specific profession for a certain period of time, or be married or related to a Bahamian citizen.
