Many people hire a campervan or live somewhere else entirely during a big renovation project, but not everyone can afford this. If you are staying in the house itself, make sure you purchase an affordable couch for the living space, something simple but cozy!
One of the big stresses that can come with a big build is everything being everywhere! It can be hard to keep track of everything, especially if a load of cabinets has had to be removed from specific rooms. Make sure you purchase plastic, see-through tubs for clothes and amenities, allowing you to clearly see where your things are at all times.
Speaking of comfort, aesthetics can make a big difference. For instance, if you are sleeping on a simple mattress on the floor, make sure you have pretty sheets to make it look inviting. In fact, any living space should be decorated beautifully. It won’t take long, but it will make a big difference when it comes to keeping the family sane and happy whilst things aren’t exactly looking pretty around them.
Flowers can also be important here. We often underestimate how essential nature is to our state of mind. Having flowers around the house, however, can help with mental well-being and can do a great job of relieving any stresses or anxieties that are happening in relation to the building itself. Perhaps most importantly, if you have kids who are living through this big build, you need to ensure that they are happy and comfortable at all times. If their rooms are a work in progress, let them go a little wild with it.
Paint on the walls, balloons, anything you can think of that will give their room a fun twist that will be perfect for keeping it cozy and representative of them.
Remember, by the time the work is done, you won’t be able to tell what happened in that room during the actual build. So let their cheeky side reign and ensure they are always happy in their own space.
