The 7 EVs Released 2023 We’re Most Excited About in 2024

The 2020s are shaping up to be a revolutionary time in the electric vehicle market. The great transition to EVs is underway, and with it comes an explosion of variety and consumer choice in the electric vehicle sector.

Record numbers of EVs and plug-in hybrids are hitting the market in 2024, and they’re available in a wide range of styles and price points.

Check out these seven upcoming releases to learn about the exciting range of EVs that are making their debut in 2023. With so many awesome EV models coming up, this could be the year that many Americans make the switch from filling up at the pump to plugging into an electrical enclosure in their garage!

Ford F-150 Lightning

Ford made headlines when it revealed the F-150 Lightning, its first all-electric pickup, at a shockingly low price point (no pun intended) of just under $40,000.

At that price, it’s got a great shot at occupying a similar niche as the original F-150: a powerful and ultra-popular work-and-play truck that can fill the role of a luxury recreational truck as well as a basic fleet vehicle.

The Lightning’s specs will make a believer out of anyone who might be tempted to doubt an electric truck: a monstrous 563 horsepower and 775 pound-feet of torque.

Few non-electric trucks of any make can touch that, and it’s all thanks to the greater efficiency of electric vehicles, which can wring far more power out of their simplified drivetrains.

BMW i4

BMW is bringing the i4, its long-awaited fully electric luxury sedan, to market in 2024. The i4 is a leonine full-size sedan with a long wheelbase and a roaring 536 horsepower that will make a trip to the grocery store feel like bending hairpins in the Bavarian Alps. In other words, it looks every bit the car Bimmer enthusiasts have been hoping for.

Yes, that distinctive and controversial “beaver tooth” grille design is still there. But even if you don’t care for it, on a vehicle this eye-popping awesome, it could well become a beloved feature in time.

And in the meantime, there are plenty of features to make you drool, including cabin air purifiers, a sport steering wheel, and an available battery capacity of up to 300 miles.

GMC Hummer EV Pickup/SUV

This new take on the Hummer might look like a 2000s throwback, but under the hood it’s anything but. Both the pickup and SUV models are built on a new “supertruck” chassis, and both use a powerful electric motor that offers a wild amount of horsepower—up to 1,000 HP, in fact.

Of course, all that muscle doesn’t come cheap, as the $110,000 price tag will certainly remind you.

Both the pickup and SUV models also come equipped with advanced all-terrain features like the new Extract Mode, which raises the vehicle’s Air Ride suspension to help it overcome obstacles.

GMC has positioned the new Hummer to compete for both the likes of the F150 Lightning and the Tesla Cybertruck, and it’s definitely looking like a strong competitor thus far.

Volvo C40 Recharge

The C40 Recharge is proof positive that Volvo’s hot streak in the luxury SUV market isn’t going away any time soon. This time, the Swedish automaker is offering a fully electric subcompact that comes loaded with high-end features that complement its sleek design and justify its higher price point.

Drivers will find the C40 Recharge a pleasure to handle, thanks to its lullaby-quiet and incredibly responsive electric drivetrain, which can kick out a whole 402 horsepower from its two motors.

Inside, drivers will find a feature set that’s built to compete with even its poshest rivals; it includes a panoramic sunroof and full-360 exterior view camera. Those in search of a stripped-down, sportier experience should try its sister vehicle, the XC40 Recharge.

VOLVO EV

Canoo Lifestyle Vehicle

The EV market is home to all kinds of interesting oddballs, and the Canoo Lifestyle Vehicle is just one such automobile. Set for launch in late 2023, this egg-shaped vehicle bills itself as a “loft on wheels.” It offers a camper-like experience while also having enough versatility built into the platform to make an excellent family or fleet vehicle.

Canoo offers several different packages for LV. A stripped-down model with more payload capacity is designed for use as a delivery vehicle, while a 7-seater luxury model offers a downright glamorous experience (though it keeps its waterproof electrical box-equal exterior aesthetic).

The company is also planning to expand into pickup trucks and full-size cargo vans in 2024 and beyond.

Cadillac Lyriq

Cadillac is sure to make one of 2023’s biggest splashes with the debut of its all-electric Lyriq SUV. With a stylish grille design, low-slung look, and 340 horsepower, the Lyriq is a strong challenger in the luxury SUV market.

Demand has been so high that the initial pre-order run has sold out, although enthusiasts will be able to place new pre-orders starting in the winter of 2023.

The Lyriq will also ship with GM’s brand-new Super Cruise autonomous driving technology. Super Cruise is GM’s foray into the driver assistance technology market, and early reviews have been positive. Then there’s the Lyriq’s dramatic oversized LED display, which is as large as some TVs and extends over a significant part of the dashboard.

Nissan Leaf

The Leaf brand is the opposite of new—Nissan’s zippy electric subcompact launched over a decade ago, and was one of the first budget EVs. But the budget section of the market still needs more options, and Nissan’s 2023 Leaf is exciting because it just received an MSRP cut to $27,400, making it the cheapest EV on the market by a fair margin.

That’s big because the Leaf has a perfectly respectable feature set for its price, including a 149-mile base range and the must-have addition of DC fast charging. For those seeking a reliable electric commuter car, the Leaf could be just right.
