Everest attended Sutton Valence school in the southwest of England and then continued his education at St. Mary’s Medical School. He served at many different hospitals early on in his career. Helping to treat numerous patients all around the country.
Simply being a consulting physician in general medicine would be a big deal for the vast majority of doctors out there. However, it’s his efforts beyond that which has grown his reputation. In particular, having a huge hand in the Everest Foundation and Resident Medical Group, where he is helping shape the future.
Dr. Michael Everest is a chairman for both the Everest Foundation and Resident Medical Group. These two organizations have a focus on philanthropy. Prioritizing those just starting their medical career. It can be a very daunting task for any student or recent graduate to fully jump into the medical field, and Everest plays a massive role in helping as much as possible.
The motto for the Everest Foundation is very simple. The non-profit organization aims to help people better themselves every single day. They pour money into helping support and fund research programs in the medical world, particularly with medical students involved. Not only does the organization help financially, but Everest himself mentors and guides many.
Another focus of the Everest Foundation is bringing higher learning opportunities to those in need. Whether it’s putting together scholarship programs for international students or helping out young adults from low-income households, Everest understands how much money goes into proper education. Instead of having gifted students constantly worry about where the money will come from, the foundation helps.
Donations to Caring for Caregivers, Helping India Breathe Initiative, and more have been recent moves made by the Everest Foundation. As more money comes in, additional help will be passed out. Together with the Resident Medical Group, Dr. Everest has a passion outside of being a practicing doctor to help out those in need.
While the Everest Foundation has been around for a while, the Telephone Angels Program launched in 2020. This is a non-profit aimed specifically at helping individuals who are currently going through a critical illness of any kind. It is a way to provide companionship to those who feel lonely to help as much as possible.
The world went through a lot of changes for many individuals in 2020. COVID-19 turned into a bigger and bigger pandemic shutting parts of the world down. Suddenly, there was a need for volunteers worldwide to help out those who couldn’t live their everyday lives.
That’s when Everest and others thought of the Telephone Angels Program. This was a remote way to check-in and help out without breaking protocols.
What Everest soon found out is that volunteers were available from all walks of life to help the Telephone Angels Program. They don’t have to be medical professionals, as they aren’t treating any illnesses or medical conditions that people face. What they are there for is to be a friend in a time of need.
Despite being born due to the pandemic, Everest sees the Telephone Angels Program to last beyond COVID-19. Many people are dealing with illnesses even without a pandemic going on. These people are lonely and in need of someone to be there for them.
This is a way to get that help without having to jump through a bunch of hoops. Volunteers have embraced this opportunity, and it’s turned into a perfect solution.
As the saying goes, children are the future. The same can be related to the medical field, as many students could pass for Everest’s own kids based on their age. Opening up more opportunities for younger people with a passion for medicine can make for better trained and skillful doctors later. Thus improving the future of medicine altogether.
As a practicing doctor, he can only help in so many ways. By running the Everest Foundation and being Chief Academic Officer at Resident Medical, he’s impacted many doctors-to-be.
As for the Telephone Angels Program, he knows the importance of getting friendship from a proper bond. Too many people are involved with the program now to see it fade away in the future.
