Does Cable slow down the internet?

Sluggish internet can conveniently get away with making anyone’s day bad. However, when there is slow internet, it can make us question the entire system that’s connected with it to make it work. It starts from the provider, reception/network, wires, all the tools and equipment involved in it along with their placement till the point it’s tangibly attached to devices.  If you are looking for reliable, and steady connectivity without putting a dent in your pocket and a contract-free subscription, you must consider spectrum cable.

In this article, we will try to find out whether cable does slow down the internet or not. If it does, how one can fix it or whatsoever. However, before we get to the reasons, solutions, it is essential to quickly understand the anatomy of how cable works. It will enable us to navigate the issue and eventually how to fix it as well.

So, without any delay, let’s get started:

How does cable internet work?

Cable TV operates with a modem of limited bandwidth. All cable providers offer a certain amount of data and internet speed on monthly basis based on the package you subscribed to. Though, the internet operates on high frequencies and higher bandwidths than dial-up connections, and most of the popular DSL and satellite connections in the market.

One of the significant features of high bandwidth is its easy access to IP. This bandwidth offers the data for other activities too rather than just consuming it for a specific task.

Some internet activities operate on a particular bandwidth that the cable box cannot provide which could include video gaming, 4K video content, etc. Also, the mentioned activities of without it too, if there are more than a few people are using cable internet simultaneously, it causes lag and slow internet. The same is the case with peak hours, when a majority of the cable subscribers use it at one time, in the same area/neighborhood or house, it gets slowed down.

The Internet providers offer high bandwidth for such circumstances as well so they work and customers’ experience remains unaffected. However, the packages with high internet speed, bandwidth, and unlimited data are not cheap but are worth spending.

The bandwidth of the cable’s modem may cause problems with data due to its low frequency. The Internet has transformed traditional TV and provides a stable connection through a bandwidth of 100MHz. Internet connection with a bandwidth of 6 MHz can entertain you with live streaming of your favorite TV reality shows.

In the case of multiple devices connected over the internet, the streaming of videos can be slow on your mobile or any other device. The internet speed lowers down enough to support a single phone call on IMO if the plan is inadequate. All the neighboring watching at one time on the internet at a specific time can also cause the overall speed of the internet to lower down, even if it’s not the peak hours.

What is the purpose behind distributing channels?

Considering that we are trying to find out if cable TV slows down internet service. Let’s see how both of these are interlinked and does that affects the speed of the internet.

Some traditional TV channels are included only in the lineup of cable TV services and these are also not available on internet TV service. While some channels like to broadcast their streaming on the internet. If you do not have cable TV service for any reason, you can enjoy their streaming on internet TV

Take it into consideration that some cable TV operators offer the broadcasting of 10 channels out of 100 and some of these channels like to broadcast their streaming through both digital platforms and traditional ones. You can entertain yourself by streaming both types of channels. You have to purchase a package of the only 2Gbps that can provide the streaming of 36 channels at a time.

With time, cable TV included on-demand services to entertain their regular customers with their favorite shows. On-demand TV provides the lineup of all channels that subscribers desire.

Conclusion

Well, there is no competition among the internet TV and on-demand because the high bandwidth of the internet facilitates you with browsing and on-demand is your own choice. After all this discussion, we have concluded that the internet can provide the high bandwidth to enjoy live streaming. Also, cable TV or cable connection doesn’t cause the internet to slow down. You can check with your ISP customer support as well if the speed is constant and drastically slow.
