Can PEMF Therapy Be Harmful

PEMF therapy has been used for over 6 decades, and its use increases due to the numerous benefits it provides for the whole body for better and faster healing and overall wellness. Before starting with any form of therapy, the benefits and harm of the therapy need to be taken into considerations to evaluate the necessity of the procedure and if it would be the best option to go with for the outcome needed. Therefore, let us go through the pros and cons of PEMF therapy to see if its benefits outweigh its negative effects.

PEMF therapy promotes cellular metabolism-enhancing cellular function and affects the body in many ways from soothing muscle pain to regulating hormone secretion. Here are some of the many benefits of PEMF therapy:

Better circulation:

This might be the most important outcome for PEMF therapy since blood is the medium used by our bodies to transport oxygen and nutrients for them to function, and better circulation means an enhancement to the body as a whole. Regular PEMF therapy results in the dilation of blood vessels allowing an increase in the amount of oxygen and nutrients reaching all organs and cells for efficient functioning.

Recovery enhancement:

After injuries, our bodies take time to heal through cellular reproduction for the injured tissue to get back to its natural healthy state. PEMF therapy stimulates the cells through electromagnetic pulses for increased cellular metabolism to boost the body’s natural recovery process. Also, PEMF therapy has been proved to help in decreasing the pain and inflammatory response by the body to injuries which reduces the discomfort felt by them. The therapy also restores impaired cellular chemistry resulting from disrupted electromagnetic energy which causes inflammation, pain, and an imbalanced immune system.

Benefits to the skeletal system:

PEMF therapy has been found to have a great effect on bone cells to promote healing of several conditions, it has been discovered that PEMF therapy has a hugely positive effect on osteogenesis which is the process of forming new bone through stimulating osteoblasts which are the bone creating cells, therefore, promoting the healing of broken bones and aiding in cases suffering from osteoporosis through increasing bone density. In some studies, it has been found that PEMF therapy highly increased the bone density of patients with osteoporosis after only 6 months of undergoing daily therapeutical sessions.

Improved immune system:

Due to the enhancing effect of PEMF therapy on the circulatory system, the immune response to pathogens entering the body is enhanced as well. The bacterium gets detected faster after it enters the body and due to the more efficient signal transfer across the body caused by PEMF therapy the immunity responds faster to the foreign body detected.

Antiaging effect:

PEMF therapy has been found to stimulate the production of HGH and Melatonin which are two hormones known to have antiaging effects. It can potentially extend our lifespans due to its effect on cellular regeneration.

The benefits of PEMF therapy are so many and the mentioned above are just some of those benefits. There are many other benefits such as better sleep due to the release of Melatonin and being in a better mood due to the effect of PEMF therapy on restoring the efficient functioning of the adrenal gland to secrete cortisol which is the main antistress hormone our bodies secrete. So, what are the negative effects of PEMF therapy? No side effects came up from using PEMF therapy under the supervision of an experienced professional and it was found to be completely safe to be used by almost anyone. The only contraindications for using PEMF devices are if you use a pacemaker or an automated adrenaline pimp since the electromagnetic waves might interfere with those devices. It is also not recommended to use PEMF devices during pregnancy due to the lack of studies on the effect of using such devices during pregnancy.
