6 ways to build a culture of continued learning in the workplace

Learning in the workplace can take many forms, one of which is called ‘continued learning’. A continuous learning culture encourages people to undertake lifelong learning, which is a continuous ongoing process of learning new skills.

Therefore, if you are thinking of building a culture of continued learning in the workplace, here are 6 ways in which you can do so.

1. Teach people how to give constructive feedback

First, start by teaching everyone in the company how to give constructive feedback effectively. This allows employees to learn how to formulate feedback, and how to receive it without taking offense.

In doing so, you are teaching your workforce early on how to observe, communicate and listen. It also encourages employees to take information onboard and use it to improve their skills.

According to a study by Career Builder, 58% of employees believe that their company does not offer enough learning opportunities for them to progress in their career.

Therefore, asking your employees what they would like more training on can be a great way to identify areas in which you need to implement more training.

2. Identify gaps in the skills of your workforce

Identifying gaps in the skills of your workforce is more relevant in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic than ever before. In fact, one survey by Deloitte found that 55% of employees felt a shift in the type of tasks they undertake to some extent because of the pandemic.

Due to this, 47% found that there was some kind of shift in the skills that they now required to do their day-to-day job. This means that nearly half of our workforce may feel that there are gaps in their skills which require training.

3. Allow employees time to learn

However, it is important to make sure that you don’t overload your employees with new training schemes on top of their everyday work. Create some barriers which makes minimum learning mandatory, so that this time can be set aside for training in advance.

4. Use a webinar digital experience to make sure its accessible

One way in which you could conduct this continuous learning is by using a webinar digital experience, such as ON24. These webinars can be streamed live, so that learning can be made accessible to even your remote workers.

One other benefit of a webinar is that you can see who participated in the training session. For those that couldn’t make it, or people who want a refresher, this webinar can be recorded and made available online for people to access whenever it suits them.

5. Set learning goals

To make sure that this becomes a culture of continuous learning, set clear learning goals for each team.

6. Create and nurture a mindset of growth and improvement

And finally, create and nurture a mindset of growth and improvement. Make it clear that the business is invested in its employees and are committed to helping them become the best that they can be.

With these six ideas in mind, you have all the tools you need to begin to implement a culture of continued learning in the workplace. By achieving this, you will be better equipped to face any change or unpredictable events that the universe throws your way.
