4 Effective Tricks to Boost the Performance of Your Windows 10 Gaming Laptop

Credence Research reported that the overall gaming laptops industry generated over $18 billion in revenue in 2018 alone. The market is one of the fastest-growing markets in the advanced technology sector. It is predicted to grow with a CAGR of over 21% between 2019 to 2027.

Compared to a gaming desktop, a gaming laptop is portable and easier to set up. Aside from upgrading the memory of a gaming laptop, there are many other ways to optimise its performance. Here are four simple but effective ways to boost the performance of a Windows 10 gaming laptop.

Keep The Laptop Clean and Dust-free

While it sounds simple, keeping the laptop’s clean at all times is an effective way to improve gaming performance. Dirt and dust are the enemies of performance. The debris will decrease airflow and makes it easier for the laptop to get too hot. Once the heat builds, critical components of the device, including GPU and processor, will operate slower than usual, which would significantly affect the gaming performance.

The best method to handle this issue is to clean the laptop regularly and make sure it is free of dust, food particles, or other substances that may cause the keys to be sticky.

Update the Drivers

Most computers with Windows, Linux, or macOS operating systems are based around similar hardware, which means that whatever operating system a gaming laptop has, keeping its drivers up-to-date is critical. Luckily, updating the drivers is a reasonably straightforward process.

Nonetheless, when it comes to graphic drivers, gamers may need to provide a more hands-on approach. Although Intel Graphics enjoy updated drivers through the Windows update, most third-graphics suppliers do not offer such an option. So make sure that the GPU management software is set to update automatically. Also, do not forget to update the audio and controller drivers.

Adjust the Power Settings

Only a few numbers of devices enjoy enhanced operation without efficient power management. The power management of a laptop is likewise considered significant. Even though Windows offers users some detailed options for power management, users can get a better gaming experience if they connect their laptop to a power outlet.

After connecting the gaming laptop to a power outlet, users can adjust the device’s power settings for better gaming performance. To optimise the power settings, they need to open Settings, hover over to the System tab, click Power and Sleep, select the Additional Power Settings, and select the High-performance tab. Users can also select the Change Plan Settings and click the Change Advanced Power Settings to see if they have not adjusted anything previously.

Activate the Gaming Mode

Windows 10 has an Xbox application that integrates features like streaming, screen recording, and Game Mode. Activating the Game Mode helps optimise the laptop for gaming. To display the Xbox panel, click WIN+G. Press the “Yes, this is a game box” when prompted. On the game bar, search for the Game Mode button located on its right side and enable the mode.

Activating the mode will allow the operating system to run the game under optimum settings by closing or suspending specific background tasks.

Optimising your laptop for gaming is not an impossible task. You can do it even if you are not tech-savvy. Some simple tricks you can do to boost the performance of your gaming laptop include cleaning your laptop regularly, updating the drivers, adjusting the power settings, and enabling the Game Mode.
